Volleyball Recap/Captain’s Corner
November 6, 2014
The South Shore Cardinals high school volleyball team ended their season a little early, but overall had a good season, improving from the last couple of years.
This is what their captains had to say:
Megan Gustafson Interview (Senior Captain)-
How do you think your team did this year?
This year, our team did a great job compared to years past. We worked so much harder, like doing 100 plus squats, over 100 seconds of planking, lots of crunches, and a whole lot more every practice. We strove to do our best, whether it was serving, or receiving. We won so many games nobody expected us to win, and I was so proud to be a Cardinal volleyball player one last time. I am going to miss it so much, time really does fly.
How has your team improved from past years?
I think that we really improved on the fundamentals. For example, we worked on how to move your feet when getting to the ball. Another HUGE improvement was our serving. In past years, our serving was maybe 50-60%, and this year we consistently served 85-90% every game. We also immensely improved on diving for every ball, and putting our hearts into every game.
What is your team going to do to improve even more for next year?
Well, sadly, I will not be back for next year, as I am a senior, but I really hope they continue to work at this game. So many of my teammates have a passion for this game unlike anything I have seen. I know that some of them have been going to volleyball camps, and I am sure they will continue to do so. One thing that I would want to see them improve on is being able to never let up when they are ahead, and finishing games. I wish them the best of luck in the following years! I know that sometime soon there will be long tournament run in their future.
Casey Nicoletti Interview (Junior Captain)-
How do you think your team did this year?
I think the team did amazing this year! We had some off nights, but what team doesn’t? We beat some of our rivals, like Bayfield for example in our pink out night. We all worked hard and it definitely showed. We were even champions of the silver pool in the Hurley tournament.
How has your team improved from past years?
I can definitely see a change in our communication since I started. Also our passing and serving has went way up!
What is your team going to do to improve even more for next year?
I think we should work on service reception and placing the ball better when tipping/pushing.
CONGRATS ON A GREAT SEASON GIRLS!
