Coaches’ Corner

This month, we have interviewed the head coaches from Volleyball, WBS Football, and Cross Country.

Coach Truchon Interview- (Volleyball)

Season Recap:

“We came out strong against Northwestern. It was exciting match, taking it to 5 games. We then went on to beat Hurley and Ironwood. Next up were the three strongest teams in the Indianhead conference, Mellen, Washburn, and Mercer. We lost to all three, but played hard against them.”

Season Predictions:

“I predict that we will be third in the Indianhead West, falling behind Mellen and Washburn.”

What can the team do to improve?

“Reduce hesitations and continue to work on their coverage skills. And stay healthy!”

Favorite game so far:

“Ironwood- we lost the first game, but bounced right back to beat them 25-6, and later won the match. That’s a big deal to maintain energy and composure!”

Coach Madison Interview- (Football)

Season Recap:

“This week entering we are 3-2. We have had some road trips that were four plus hours away. We have been on the road since week two, and will finish up at home for the last three weeks of the season.”

Season Predictions:

“Playoffs and improve everyday.”

What can the team do to improve?

“Off season workout. Weight room and 7 on 7.”

Favorite game so far:

“Ashland 8-6 victory. The varsity has never played them! It was also a big win because of how the community was so involved.”

Coach Lahti Interview- (Cross Country)

Season Recap:

“This has been another successful season for South Shore Cross Country. Our athletes always put 100% into their races and represent South Shore amazingly.   Our first conference meet in Solon Springs had many South Shore runners placing in the top 10 and everyone having their most successful race.”

Season Predictions:

“I predict that each of our runners is going to catch the five runners ahead of them at conference meet in Ironwood and South Shore will win the conference championship. I also see a trip to Wisconsin Rapids in the future for some of our athletes.”

What can the team do to improve?

“Sometimes it is hard for the athletes to work their hardest during practice. Their race times improve when they find a way to use maximum effort in practice.”

Favorite game so far:

“Our first meet in Bruce was one of my favorites so far, except for injuries incurred. The first meet of the season is always a challenge for the students. There were so many interesting reactions that I had not seen before. Some loved it, some hated it and some puked.”
