The Boys and Girls Basketball Season Comes to a Close

The basketball season for both the boys, and girls teams has come to a close. Both teams had a remarkable season this year; the boys team made it to the number four standing in the Indianhead Conference this year, and the girls team made it to the number two standing in the conference. The South Shore Boys Varsity team had a total of seventeen wins and nine losses. They were able to advance to play two regional games; winning their first one against Butternut with a score of 94-59, and unfortunately losing their second game against Northwood with a score of 80-67. The most points the team scored in a game was 102 in a home game against Bayfield. There were three seniors on the team this year; Koy Nelson, Ryan Knaack, and Ethan Helenius. Koy Nelson’s averages were 30.8 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists per game. Ryan Knaack’s averages were 4.7 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 0.9 assists per game. Ethan Helenius’s averages were 5.1 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 0.6 assists per game. The boys JV team had a total of five wins and thirteen losses. The most points they scored in a game was 67 in an away game against LCO.
The South Shore Girls Varsity team had a total of twenty-two wins and five losses. The girls team was able to advance to play three regional games; winning their first game against Luck with a score of 56-22, as well as their second game against Mellen with a score of 52-43. They unfortunately lost their third game against Hurley with a score of 43-52. The most points the girls team scored in a game was 79 points in a home game against Butternut, and an away game against Chequamegon. The team’s only senior this season was Abby Lahti. Her averages were 2.0 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game. Some other notable players this season would be Lily Truchon, a junior, and Emily Montgomery, a sophomore. Lily Truchon’s averages were 24.2 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game. Emily Montgomery’s averages were 15.3 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game. The girls JV team unfortunately didn’t get to play as many games this season due to other teams not having enough players for a JV team, but were able to play six games this season. They won three and lost three out of those six games. The most points they scored in a game was 41 in a home game against Ashland.
