This 2020-21 season brought our Cardinals both adversity and success. The COVID guidelines forced the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams to play while wearing masks, as well as adjust to new rules that affected the way they played basketball. For example: the jump ball was taken out and teams were no longer allowed to shake hands at the conclusion of the game. Undeterred by these changes, both teams finished their seasons with great records. The girls went 20-4 and the boys 16-8. The boys started the play-offs with a bye in the first round. The second round, they faced off against the Bayfield Trollers at home and won 64-49. That win put them in the regional finals, where they faced off against the Drummond Lumberjacks. The boys traveled down to Drummond and played a tight game. They gave the Lumberjacks their best shot, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. They lost 49-56, which ended their participation in the tournament. On the other side, the girls won their regionals after beating Butternut in the second round, 69-23. Then beating Drummond, in the regional final, 53-32. The girls then traveled to Prairie Farm and played the Panthers in the sectional semi-final game. The girls came up short, with a final score of 43-51. It was a very exciting game for all those watching. Unlike most years, both the boys’ and girls’ teams ended their seasons on a win. The Cardinals even had the opportunity to travel to Ironwood together, where they delivered two wins against the Red Devils!

Congratulations to the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams on their incredible seasons!
