On Friday, February 19, the high school boys basketball team played Bayfield at home for the first Regional game for South Shore. The starters were Jake Winge, Matthew Montgomery, Koy Nelson, Carter Lulich, and Will Watrin. The game starts and South Shore takes an early lead 8-3. As the game goes on, South Shore keeps increasing their lead. The score is now 21-6, with the most recent basket for South Shore coming from a fast break layup off of a steal from Matt. By the time the half is over, the score is 44-16 with South Shore in the lead. In the beginning of the second half, Bayfield scores quite a bit, managing to get the score to 44-28. South Shore widens their lead again, bringing the score to 55-32. Bayfield scores 10 points in a row to narrow the gap. Then, in the middle of the game, Koy scores a free throw to mark his 1000th point. The game is stopped for a moment to congratulate him. At the end of the game, the score is 62-46 with one minute left. South Shore is in the lead. At approximately 24 seconds left, the starters are taken out of the game so that Ethan Helenius, Leevi Tapani, Matt Knaack, Conner Helenius, and Peyton Jardine get to finish out the game. Leevi scored two points in the last 20 seconds of the game to make the final score 64-49.
