Koy Nelson Nominated for VNN Athlete of the Week!
February 10, 2021
Koy Nelson recently broke the South Shore Boys’ Basketball Single Game scoring record on February 6, 2021, against Ashland High School. Koy erupted for 50 (yes, 50) points in that game! The previous single game scoring record at South Shore was set by Jeff Lahti back in 1995 (41 points), and before that the record holder was David Gustafson with 37 points in 1993. Koy also set the record in his game against Ashland for the most 3-point shots made (10 made shots) in a single game. The previous record holder for the boys was Blake Reijo in 2015 with 9 made 3-point shots.
Following his wildly successful week, Koy Nelson was nominated for the February 1-7 VNN Athlete of the Week award! In order for him to win this honor from the Wisconsin High School Sports community, he needs to get more votes than the other 4 students. However, it should be noted that the other 4 students come from much larger schools, so we are asking our community to support Koy’s nomination and log onto their devices to vote for Koy. If you haven’t voted yet, voting is open until Thursday, February 11, at 4 p.m. Here’s the link: www.wissports.net/news_article/show/1145079 . The voting rules state you can vote every day, so please take a few minutes to support Koy!
Here is what VNN writes about Koy,“ South Shore picked up three victories last week, with one of those coming from a record-setting performance by Nelson. First in a 50-42 win over Mercer, he had 22 points. He followed that up with 14 points and four assists in a 58-31 win over Solon Springs. Nelson, a 5’8″ junior, saved his best for last in a 72-53 win over Ashland.”
Congratulations Koy!
