Elementary students have been working on self portraits in art class recently. Students viewed and discussed work by artist Frida Kahlo. We observed and discussed how Frida used symbols in her artwork to tell the viewer about herself. Students used this as inspiration to show something about their personalities through their artwork. We also practiced how to draw facial features. Students were able to choose how they would like to finish their portraits. Students used paint, colored pencils, and pencil to complete their final portrait.
