Boys Fight Frederic

On February 24, the South Shore high school boys basketball team faced Frederic at home. The JV game was first at 5:45. The starters were Leevi Tapani, Matt Knaack, Will Watrin, Ethan Helenius, and Kevin Biolo. South Shore won the tip. This game was South Shore’s ‘Senior Night,’ so Kevin and Tad would be playing as much as they could. Tad didn’t start, but got into the game early on. Sadly, he injured his ankle within the first five minutes. Tad was out of the game from then on. South Shore fought hard against Frederic. The refs were calling everything, so South Shore had to be careful not to foul. By the end of the game, Kevin, Leevi, and Matt all fouled out. South Shore played well, but lost with a score of 32-53. The main scorer was Will.
The varsity team played next. The starters were Doug Hipsher, Bjorn Branham, Holden Suo, Jake Winge, and Koy Nelson. South Shore won the tip. They played aggressively, wanting to secure the win. It was a fairly even game, but it got extremely close at the very end. South Shore was up by three with a minute left. Frederic made a shot that was worth two, so then South Shore was down by one. South Shore ran back on offense, and Koy got a really nice pass to Jake for a layup. South Shore was up by three again. Frederic had possession until South Shore got a steal. They started to run up the court, but Koy got fouled. South Shore was in bonus, so he got to shoot two free throws. He made both and South Shore was up by five. There were 26 seconds left. South Shore got fouled again for two more free throws. At the end of the game, South Shore was up by seven. They held the ball until the clock hit zero. They won with a score of 74-67.
