Guest Artists Visit South Shore
May 14, 2019
The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council awarded a grant to the Cornucopia Art Crawl to support educational art initiatives for the South Shore School District. Two very talented guest artists came into the art classroom this spring to share their expertise and work hands-on with the students. Dorothy Hoffman shared some of her own artwork and showed students hand building techniques with clay. Students created a variety of works including boxes, mugs, and unique egg-shaped sculptures and vases. The second artist was Evan Hestekin of Cornucopia, he impressed the students with a quick demonstration on the kick wheel. He then worked with students on the basics of throwing on the wheel. Students caught on quickly and enjoyed working with clay. Next school year students will be taking a field trip to visit art studios in the area. The Cornucopia Art Crawl grant will also be providing a summer art camp for students to create a variety of work that they can enter in the Cornucopia Art Crawl and even sell if they would like. The Art Camp will be held at South Shore School August 13th-16th 8:30-1 and is open to grades 2-12. To sign up please email Steph Granke at [email protected]
