Battle of the Books is a yearly reading competition that is held in May at CESA #12 in Ashland for students in grades 4-6.  At the beginning of the school year, a list of 20 books is distributed to schools. Students who join the Battle of the Books program read as many of the books as they can between September and May.  At the competition, students compete in teams of 3 to answer questions from the 20 books. This year, 20 students participated in the program at South Shore. They stayed after school every Wednesday to read and discuss the books.  They also spent many hours reading at home.

At the competition on May 1st, South Shore had 4 teams compete.  The team consisting of Wylder Moriarty, Daniel Truchon, and Eddie Pudas took 2nd place out of 17 teams!  They were tied for 1st place at the end of the competition, but Washburn won a tie-breaker question. The team consisting of Azure Grant, Chalee Luzzatto, and Gabby L’Heureux made it to the final round.  Students from the other teams, McKenna Coy, Addy LaFontaine, Sophia Truchon, Sylas Jardine, Maddie Purzner, and Kalyssa L’Heureux also did very well.

In addition to these students, Addisen Wehrman, Dexton Wilcox, Aydan Zenz, Brooklyn Lehto, Bella Beckwell, Olin Moriarty, and Erica Johnson also participated in the program.  Congratulations to all of the students for the many hours they spent reading and enjoying high quality books!
