Pasty Fundraiser for Music Trip to Colorado!
March 13, 2019
On Saturday, March 9th, Susie Suo, Theresa (Suo) Anderson, and Bob Anderson came to school to teach the music students and their parents how to make their family’s traditional pasty recipe. Mary Suo, Susie and Theresa’s mother, is well-known for making wonderful pasties. The ingredients are simple, but the process of making the pasties is complex. Seed money from a Thrivent Financial Action Team Grant was used to purchase much of the ingredients. Additional donations from several South Shore families covered the rest of the costs. This made the sale of the pasties a 100% profit. The demand for pasties was high and resulted in the production and sale of 350 pie tins which contained 2 pasties each. This helped the music department raise $3500 toward their trip to Colorado. Thank you to the volunteers who peeled and diced potatoes, chopped onions and made dough for the crust, rolled out the crusts, mixed the filling, put the completed pasties together, baked the pasties and packaged them for sale. Thank you also to all who purchased them. Despite running out of ingredients, twice, the day went very smoothly and was a lot of fun. There is the talk of pasty-making becoming an annual fundraiser at South Shore.
