South Shore Senior Hits 1000
January 5, 2018
“Attention ladies and gentleman…” Baynet announced on Thursday, Dec. 29th. This call for attention was to recognize Connor Sorenson, a South Shore senior, on sinking his 1,000th point. A thousand points in a high school career is a huge accomplishment. Since 2014, Blake Reijo, Megan Gustafson, and Shauna Kavajecz were some of the few who met this goal. This year Connor was added to this list.
Connor has been an outstanding addition to the team since he started playing basketball. He was a varsity starter his freshman year of high school and has been starting ever since. Last year, Connor was named MVP of the team and was the only member to receive a 2nd team all-conference award that year. In previous years, he was awarded all-conference Honorable Mention. Connor’s coach, Matt Bailey, felt very honored to be coaching Sorenson when he hit this major milestone. “I am very proud of Connor. It has been great coaching him the last year and a half and he definitely deserves this and has worked very hard for this accomplishment.” Connor’s previous coach, Matthew Hipsher, was very proud of his former player. “He has always been a fierce competitor. Connor started as a freshman and was tasked with playing upperclassmen in the paint. Even in middle school Connor has always been pushed bigger than he is. He has a great work ethic and leadership skills.”
The boys took home a win that night with Connor racking up 17 points. He hopes to keep adding on to that 1000 as the season goes on. The boys’ team has a game Monday, January 8th atSouth Shore where Connor will receive his 1000 point ball. Make sure to come and support!
