Winter Break Begins for Basketball with a Double Header at Winter

On Thursday, December 21st, both the boys’ and girls’ high school basketball teams headed down to Winter, WI to face the Warriors in a doubleheader, hoping to end on a high note with a win before going on winter break.
The girls began the night with their game at 5:45 p.m. They started off strong, with a 24 point lead over Winter at the half. Not letting up, the girls kept their scoring high throughout the second half. The final score was 72-31 in favor of South Shore. Freshmen Natalie Knaack and Chloe Sipsas lead the scoring with 14 points each. Closely following them was junior Rylee Nicoletti with 12 points of her own. Rylee also led the team in steals with 7 to her name. Heather Ranta and Chloe Sipsas were the top rebounders for the night with 9 rebounds each. Morgan Rock and Natalie Knaack were close behind, both having 8 rebounds. This win put the girls at a 3-4 record overall heading into the break.
The boys had their turn next. Starting their game at 7:00 p.m., the boys quickly gained a lead over the Warriors. The score was 36-24 at the half, South Shore having the lead. The second half brought even more intensity. The Cardinals outscored the Warriors by 30 points in the second half, putting the final score at 87-45. Leading the team in scoring was senior Connor Sorenson with 24 points, followed by Douglas Hipsher and Tristin Wilcox who each had 17 points. Douglas Hipsher led rebounding with 10 rebounds. The win over Winter made the boys overall record 5-2.
Both teams would play again during the Washburn Holiday Tournament on Thursday, December 28th, and Saturday, December 30th.
