On Nov. 15th, the boys and girls basketball teams had an intersquad scrimmage at the historical Herbster gym. This scrimmage is an annual event with a two-fold agenda: practice time for the girls’ and boys’ to run plays against a strong defense and a fundraiser. Overall, the night was very successful and both coaches and players felt that their objectives were met.
The girls prepared their teams a day before and had plays already thought out. The game was an intense battle and was a very close score. The red team lost by 5 with the white team pulling out the win. There was one little bump in the road for the team. Morgan Rock, a sophomore, fell during the game and hurt her ankle. Having never been previously injured, it was an especially bitter outcome. “It really sucks that I have to miss part of the season because of it.” She has been out for four days and counting. We hope to see her back on the court soon.
The boys game, however, was completely different. It was very simple and hilarious. They boys racked up plenty of points, running up the scoreboard into the triple digits. Their game went smoothly and they accomplished a lot of new work. Sawyer Schierman, a sophomore, was happy with the outcome of the game. “The night went very good. I feel like I know the plays a lot better.” The whole team, in fact, feels this way and they are ready for the season.
Overall, the scrimmages went very well and improved the teams. Even the coaches learned something new about each player. We would like to wish both teams good luck on the rest of the season!
