On Nov. 7th, the girls basketball team will start their first practice of the season. The boys start a whole week later on Nov. 14th. The annual red and white scrimmage will be held on Nov. 15th. It includes crowd games, and a junior varsity & varsity game.

With the volleyball season just ending, many of the girls are anxious to get back on the court. Shauna Kavajecz, a senior, who has been playing since fourth grade, shows how happy she is for the season to be starting, “I am so excited for this season. I can’t believe it’s my last year of high school ball!” Not only are the players excited for the season, but the coaches are in the spirit too. Ryan Tiberg, who is the head coach for the girls, states his goals for this season and his excitement, “My first goal for this season is to have large numbers of participants. I want to provide the opportunity to those who want to and then take it to win a conference title and further the season on to state.” After losing three seniors last year, this year is going be a big change for many as they prepare for moving up, but they are ready for the challenge.

Not only are the girls excited for the most wonderful time of the year, but the boys are in the spirit too. Every Wednesday for the past couple weeks, the boys basketball team has been having open gyms together to prepare for the season. Then, as a bonding experience, they all go out to eat afterwards. Roger Branham, a senior on the team this year, comments on the progress being made and the excitement to start competing, “New season, same reason.” The boys are wanting to win a conference title for the school. The same goal as previous years. This year the boys have a new coach along with former coaches. We all welcomed Mr. Bailey to the South Shore family in the beginning of the year and are happy to announce he is the new head basketball coach. Shane Wilcox will also be returning as assistant coach along with Keith Bailey.

The teams are both working hard and wanting to achieve goals this season. We all would like to wish the boys and girls teams good luck!
