South Shore Athletes Excel

November 10, 2015

Fall is a time of year that is well known to students as work, work, work. Not only do the students work hard completing their school work, those who are in sports also work hard at the sport they play.

The Fall Awards Banquet is an event to honor those student athletes for their extra efforts and commitment.  South Shore has a rich, storied athletic history and this year was no different.  Students who participated in cross country, football, volleyball and middle school girl’s basketball joined together to have a meal and bask in the accolades bestowed upon them.  Of the many students who participated in a sport, four excelled at their particular sport and made all conference. They have all worked hard for what they have achieved.

All conference means an athlete is selected for being one of the best players in the conference. Congratulations to second team all conference for Casey Nicoletti, in volleyball and Emma Winge in cross country.  First team all conference awards went to Emma Ostrenga in cross country and Alyssa Kavajecz, also in cross country.

All conference is an award that is given for each sport, but the requirements vary for any given sport.

First team all conference in cross country means the student athlete is in the top 10 as a result of their individual conference meets. Second team all conference in cross country includes the 11th-20th placed individuals, based on their individual meet times.

First team all conference in volleyball is voted on by the coaches.  The first place team in the conference gets five nominations and the last place team gets one nomination. A coach can nominate a player on his/her team, but can not vote for them. There are 12 players nominated. The top six with the highest votes are first team all conference. The next six are second team all conference.

Again, congratulations to all of the student athletes!
